How about that Enron? | Cheeky, those guys. Giving $55 million in bonuses and golden parachutes to the alpha dogs in the corporate suite, after (no doubt) having so carefully skimmed it off the top of the 401-k investment moneys from the employees, who now are without the pensions they took trust in by investing their time, effor, hard work and money in the palce where they thoughtthey'd be working with a long time.

Some folks, would seem to think (and I've read so much in some print media) that actions such as this might constitute some sort of fraud on the part of the execs. Fancy that!

And now MS-NBC and CNN come out with the [not terribly surprising] revelations that some former governor from Texas going by the handle of "Dubya" has all sorts of insider trading type connections with these planful guys. So that has the government involved, somehow. Too bad we're no longer in the age of irony, for this little imbrogio would most certainly fit in the category. You know, those pro-"free-trade" anti-gommint politicians like George W hisself and a whole pack of players in congress (graduates of the "Gingrich Revolution") now running the show. Nah, I wouldn't call that fraud.

I'd think of it as something more along the lines of Economic Treason.

montreal skyline right now Montreal bound | Yeah. Maybe going to la belle Quebec just as it appears to be hit by a winter storm that has dumped more than two metres of snow on Buffalo seems unwise. But it's a bus tour I'm going with. We'll be inside a good part of the time [not that I find being indoors all that favorable] and the temps are considerably warmer than those I experienced in mid-winter while living in the Adirondack Mountains. I'm looking forward to it. [PIX ABOVE FROM WWW.MONTREALCAM.COM]

Would like to be able to see Cirque du Soliel in person but that doesn't seem to be in the cards this trip. By the way, although the site requires Macromedia Flash Player 5 software, [and they also ask you to sign in and register with them] this site is a visual treat itself.

Can't saw what other mysteries and mischief I can get into up there. That'll have to wait.

I may have to be doing this come this spring

Drought! | According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, I am one of the 42 million people who rely upon well water for drinking, bathing, washing and all other things I'd do with captured water.

And, like some folks, I am also one of those who periodically go without water when the well runs dry. Why? Because we have a dug well, which relies upon the level of the groundwater table, which is replenished with rain and snow. Since late September there has been less than 2 inches of rain in this area, and the water table has consistently been lowering. Cause from Global Warming? Possibly. We haven't seen this low level of precipitation for decades. So come spring (can't get a well driller out here quickly anyway) we may be drillend down to some more subterranian aquifer.

Until then, we go back to doing laundry somewhere else, and either bathe down the road at a neighbors, or don't bathe at all. Your choice.
