porges road cliff Epiphanies | On the ride home I sometimes like to stop along the Connecticut River and look out over it. It's a public place where I go to but few people know about it, which is fine by me, since I rarely, if every see anyone while out there. And I can just sit and enjoy the quiet. Hope you have some such place too. Wouldn't be without one. And, no, I'm not gonna tell you where it is (though I did identify it in my entry that is posted on the 1000 Journals site, not that tellig you this shall make it any easier to find).
Did a coupla sketches, ran through a couple of private personal rituals, and listened to Worldbeat for the time I watched the sky darken. Didn't watch the sun set, mind you. The skies did not allow for that, except for some pale streaks of organe (kind of the color of a Creamsickle&#tm; against dull grey, if you would). Not all like ysterdays impressive display of second order colors until darkness.
Anyways, what you see here is one of the pics I came home with. I had no idea what colors I was using while I painted, for it was too dark. SO I have intentionally darkened them to reflect what I was seeing. Hope you like it.

Kenosha Harbor alfred waud | Recently, a direct descendant of Alfred Waud contacted me after seeing some images I'd put up on some civil war art section of this site. Given Mr. Waud is one of my all time favorite pen/ink pencil artists (and was remarkably adept at sketching a vast and busy battle scene in a matter of minutes, capturing a scene in impressive detail) I was excited to hear that there are still images that he produced which the world has yet to see.
I was saddened, certainly, to hear about the fact that much of his work was broken up and distributed all about after the passing of his grandson, Malcolm F. J. Burns, some time in the late 1970s. I was, however, honored to be able to see some of these illustrations (post civil war) and want to thank Ms. Burns for the chance to view them. This scene of Kenosha Harbor is one of them.

Lowell Boileau's Heartland Lowell Boileau | While writing about Waud, it got me to thinking about how much exposure his work has online and I did a google search which came up with the Project Plug Ugly website | The site attempts to "see" the Civil War from the eyes of one General Alpheus Starkey Williams and in the process, steers the viewer to a gallery of locales where Waud's travels took him during the Civil War. Not many examples of Waud's work, however.
Taking the inquiry a step farther, I stumbled into Lowell Boileau's pages and his own work | Boileau works with vivid colors, depicting urban and natural landscapes | Curiously, I have come across other facets of Boileau's work before in my wanderings about on the subject of Urban Adventuring | Turns out that Mr. Boileu is also the creator of The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit, itself an impressive work chronicalling the old architectural wonders and curiosities of that city.
