Weather observations and Stupid news-anchor quips | I'm heartened to see some rain this morning but to tell the truth, the well hasn't been replenished | The intermittent stream in the basement (we have a dirt floor cellar) is dry as a bone, when it ought still be running this time of year |
Now, the other direct effect of this total lack of rainfall becomes all too apparent when I lift up the well cover and see the bottom of the feederpipe quite clearly | It means its down the road 8 miles to do laundry again, holding off on flushing toilets and skipping showers for the marshy smelling river across the street | It's warm enough though, since the run off from the nuclear plant up the river helps keep it that way1 |
Given this serious lack of H2O, it seems all the more galling when an idiot on the local news [WTNH, New Haven] tells his viewers that we'll be lucky since the rian will only last one day and be done with it | Sure wonder what stuff he's drinking |

too impersonal? | Somebody wrote recently that this site's blog is too impersonal, meaning that I didn't put enugh stuff about myself, or of me escapades with other folks I know and what's up with them | Well, I'm not entirely certain how to respond on this accusation | In part, it's probably true but if by this it means I don't rant and berate people I know via the blog, theres good reason for that | First I'm very involved in local community afairs; second, it usually serves no useful purpose to do so; third, it ends up seeming malicious and what purpose is thre in that? |
If by impersonal it means that I don't say much about others I know, well, ~using other blogs as examples~ I'm sometimes hard pressed to determine why people write the stuff they do about others |Maybe the writer could provide me with a hint |
And if, by impersonal, it means I don't share intimate details about my personal life with billions of others, I guess I always tho't that I do this quite enough by inference via the different sections of the site that this is part of (or "of which this is part" for you grammarians out there) |
How about greater clarity as to what you meant? | Oh, but provide me with a returnable e-mail address when you do |
Primitive Archer Magazine The Ötzi Mystery | Primitive Archer magazine has a four page piece on the 5,300 year old frozen man found some time ago in the Italian/Austrian mountains | The piece speculates about the man's life history, the culture, hunting, smelting and possible agricultural pratices of the time when Ötzi may have lived | The "mustery" part of the story has to do with how Ötzi died | The author's conclusion, was that he had been murdered but that he got away from his assailant(s) before apparently freezing to death | (Incidentally, while PA has a link to the story, I've not been able to get it to pull up on screen. You might want to buy the magazine if it's available)
Now, I raise this account in part to give a lead to stories about neolithic human history, but also to provide a link to an archery source that is typically packed with data and detail on the study, construction and practical use of so-called primitive firearms (well, "fire" arms may not be technically accurate, but I trust you get the point) |
