farmland preservation efforts | What you see here is the barns of one of the heritage farms in Moodus, the Dill Farm | It is also one of the painting projects I'm working on, though from a slightly different vantage point | When it's done. I'll see about putting the image online | The image is taken around 7 in the evening [GMT + 5 hours] and the red buds of the maples are teased out in the light of early sunset |For more about farmland preservation efforts in Connecticut, click here and here |
the easter egg party | We went to an egg painting party at Buddy and Bob's last weekend | Over 60 dozen eggs to dye, paint, mark up and draw upon | I did about six of them | There were about 20 categories for juding including: most religious, most Asian (Buddy collects Aisan art and porcelain), most original, most political, ugliest, dumbest, and an "adult" category (there were two entries for this; both got photographed but won't be online here) | blogs found tonight | Kathryn Cramer | A courageous young mother from Pleasantville NY who writes about cyberbullies, mercenaries, iraq and other things that pass her line of sight | Life at T J's Place which is "...a gentlemen's club in the Midwestern United States. I'm Kevin, the assistant manager. This is for all of you who think managing a strip joint would be the world's greatest job" | deuce of clubs with it's interesting take on politics Pursuit of Liberty and a warning to those who direct link pictures that someone out there may change what you've posted in original and challenging ways... and those are just two reasons for going there | suspension of disbelief.net jared dunn 16 april | 07:42:09 AM | headstrong thinking? | Got a "cease and desist" e-mail the other day from a Richard Barrett which informed me that I have been ...unlawfully infringing on [his] trademark..., namely the term "Skinheadz" on my own website rondak.org | When I went and looked at what part of the site he complained, I found an older, long ago written page that had a bookmark list with a hyperlink to his "client's" site | Oddly ~due to my tendency to haphazardly update sections~ at some time the page where the link is located, isn't even linked to the rest of my own site | So I don't imagine it gets a lot of hits | Perhaps the writen has had his own head hit too often in the mosh pits | The complaining party represents one of a group of white supremist nationalists who maintain they look forward to one day being in power and making the right leadership decisions for us all | I find it intriguing that the site's authors are anti George W Bush | In respect of his wishes, I won't link his site with this mention ~ www.skinheadz.com | 10 april | 09:05:00 AM | scaticoke - schaticoke - schaghticokes tribal recognition disputed: What is it? | What difference does it make? | I know that for about a half dozen decades or so, this tribe of Native American people, who live not far from the toney Litchfield County village of Kent (can't get much more British Isles in name) Connecticut has been working their way through the Federal bureacuracy at the BIA to gain tribal recognition | Now that they are on the brink of getting recognized, the respected elders of Kent disagree with the findings becuase their ancestors -pale and pasty faced descendants of people frome another continent- have lived in the area almost 200 years | Alright, maybe it's 300; it isn't much longer that than, we can be sure | What is it about the descendants of land robbers that makes them feel entitled to something was never their to begin with ? | Were 'genocide' just a funny word in the English language, the situation, because if its repetetiveness throught the centuries and across the continent, might be laugable | But it is not | That the respected burghers of Kent use the thought that the recently recognized tribe might build a casino is not surprising, they have a real fear about the rightful desceandants of the lands they live on actually having the resources to take it away | But let's not kid ourselves | Documentation of the tribe's presence and existence has been around longer than the settlers who now clain the area as their own | In truth, they no more own the land they live on that humans own the oceans by virtue of having traveled upon them | More later music right now | Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain () | Michael Hedges - Torched (1999) | climate change | Since the middle 1980s, when NOAA researchers first noticed a hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica, the evidence of planetary climate change has continued to mount | In February 2004, even The Pentagon issued a report that affirmed this phenomena, identified some of the social and environmental problems our global citizenry are likely to face as a result of ignoring this mounting evidence | In England, the Guardian Unlimited picked up the story (Lord knows, Rupert Murdoch won't spend much time on it) thus making it available to anyone who doesn't want to keep their own heads in the probverbial sand |
Chris Elliott is a strong speaking, opinionated New Hampshire native living in Portsmouth New Hampshire and writes on everything from gay marriage to how some folks have compared George Dubya to Hitler [his take? no can do. Hitler was a brilliant orator] | His opinion is a breath of fresh air! | For once a change from O'Reilly Factor clones spewing forth unintelligible peans to tax reduction for the rich, pro-war jingoism, supply(less) side voodoo economics [the present admin's figures make Reagan's economic practices seem downright socialist by contrast] I found out about him quite by accident | I'll be reading his columns with interest |other stuff || ECONOMIC TREASON: Do travesties like ENRON make your blood boil? There's a new discussion group on the Yahoo Groups website. The conversation has just begun. Participants are welcome. Stop by, sign up, and add your POV. | What's up with this? | yer host's booklist | events of interest | write me: wbrady@rondak.org | travelogue | madbook | homo ruminations FOUND! vera cais Thanks to Emanuele in Paris | Your response to my posting about Vera Cais has resulted in two kin long separated resuming their prior conversations | ![]() OTHER VOICES from monde's weblog MEMORY HOLES In the Orwellian 1984 totalitarian scenario (which already seems kinda tame, nowadays, doesn't it?) any bits of information which were to be "revised" would be tossed into tubes called memory holes, little vacuum-sucking holes used by the workers at Minitrue. Once disposed of in this fashion, it would then be considered to have never existed at all...and reality was considered to have never been otherwise. Reality is quite bendy-twisty, flexible. In this sci-fi hell we're living in, truth sometimes just doesn't stay true, and often seems to pass into a state of irrelevancy, of unbeing. The facts change: but the factors stay the same. Or is that the other way around? search engines | iTools | all the web | scrub the web | altavista | northern light plague you with cookies or pop-up adverts but still okay to use | dogpile | yahoo | hotbot
On many sites from which this one connects, you'll need ACROBAT READER to read a variety of documents and bulletins | If you don't have it, click on the logo below and get it. It's free! ABOUT THE "PIX OF THE DAY": Each "day" I present a new image from my own work. The image may or may not be relevant to the text the is next to it. The purpose is more to show off my work | Hope you like them | e-mail | you can write me either at wbrady@rondak.org or at will-b@earthlink.net | I have a couple of older e-mail addresses which have become so clogged with spam that I barely look at them anymore | Too bad, really, since I still seem to get a number of notes on US Civil War artists on one of them | I won't write you back from the old addresses | Regrets for this inconvenience |
